The Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Eyeshadows ($6.99) are a drugstore gem that any beauty lover should have in their arsenal. Cream eyeshadows can seem unforgiving and foreign to the casual makeup wearer, but these are a great grab for a makeup artist of any level.
I have the shades 55 Inked in Pink (in the Metal finish), 35 Tough as Taupe and 25 Bad to the Bronze.
First of all, the packaging feels luxurious. Each shadow comes in a glass pot with a twist on plastic cap. It reminds me of the packaging on the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pomade. There is .14 oz of product, but you don’t need to use a whole lot, so it lasts awhile.
These shadows are a creamy, gel-like consistency that dry down comfortably. I love these because you can wear them alone on your eyelid for easy looks that will stay all day, but my favorite way to use these is as a base for shimmer eyeshadows.
I will start by putting down an eyeshadow primer (any will work, I use the Urban Decay Primer Potion ($20)) and a light cream colored shadow as my base. Then I will do any matte transition shades in my crease and darker mattes on my outer corner, and then I place one of the Maybelline cream shadows all over my lid before applying a shimmer shade.
Using one of these cream shadows before packing on a shimmer shadow really makes the pigment in the shimmer shade pop. I usually just apply these shadows with my finger, but you could also use a flat synthetic brush.
Other powder shadows lay on top of this product beautifully, and it makes my eyeshadow look bulletproof. I never get creasing or transferring when I wear this product.
I often will wear the pink shade on its own as well, it’s beautiful with a simple eyeshadow look paired with a nude lipstick. Honestly, I adore this product and would recommend it to anyone.
