Thanksgiving is only one week away, and instead of scrambling last-minute to grab a bottle of wine on your way to the in-law’s house, pick up one of these bottles of delicious local wine to impress the wine lovers in your family.
Rosé All Day
Who says you can only drink rosé in the summertime? The crisp, dry and fruity aspects of rosé are perfect for entertaining pre-meal. A refreshing glass of rosé paired with a cheese plate is a perfect way to keep your guests satisfied while the turkey is still cooking. One of my favorites is Front Porch Farms 2014 Rosé ($24), which I picked up at Healdsburg Shed.
Another amazing rosé for Thanksgiving is Iron Horse Vineyards 2012 Gratitude Sparkling Rosé ($65). Not only are Iron Horse’s bubbles some of the very best, but every purchase of this wine gives $5 to the local Redwood Empire Food Bank. You can pick up this wine at their tasting room in Sebastopol.
A Rich Red
Red wine is classic for holiday season because it can balance with the heaviness of hearty meals. DaVero Farms & Winery, a boutique winery in Healdsburg with an environmental mission, makes the crowd-pleasing 2016 Dolcetto. Juicy with hints of earthiness will be sure to hold up to all the fixings of a Thanksgiving feast. Pick up DaVero wines at the winery in Dry Creek Valley, for more info on hours and location, click here.
Cheers to Local Bubbles
Sparkling wine is arguably the most popular drink for the holiday season. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s, you’ve got to have bubbly on deck. Known around the world as one of the tastiest California Champagnes, you can’t go wrong with Korbel – and you can get it nearly anywhere for an affordable price (around $12, depending on the store).
If you want to impress your friends and family with bubbly that’s local, sustainable and delicious, pick up a bottle of bubbly from J Vineyards. The wine is on the pricer side ($75), but it will be sure to impress the wine enthusiasts (or snobs) of the family.
